Pastor Katie was called to the Highland Avenue congregation in late 2015, drawn by this congregation's yearning to re-imagine worship and expand community engagement, as well as its historical commitment to social justice as a faithful response to the call of Jesus Christ.
Having earned a Bachelor's degree in English and Creative Writing from Lycoming College in Williampsort, PA in 2007, Pastor Katie went on to complete her Masters of Divinity in 2012 at Bethany Theological Seminary in Richmond, IN, with a Peace Emphasis and Distinction in Ministry Studies. That same year, she was ordained at the Ivester Church of the Brethren in Grundy Center, IA, where she served as a pastor for three years.
Connecting the stories of our lives to God's story in preaching, as well as empowering others’ voices in preaching, are important pieces of Pastor Katie's personal call to ministry. One of the ways she is currently living out that call is by pursuing a certificate in Homiletic Peer Coaching from Vanderbilt Divinity School's David G. Buttrick program.
With her spouse, Parker, Katie parents two young children and lives in one of Elgin's historic districts, where she enjoys walking around the community with her dog, learning Spanish, and practicing yoga. Please introduce yourself and help Pastor Katie get to know the Highland Avenue church family and greater Elgin community.
